Xcel Energy Inc. is a holding company engaged in the generation, purchase, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity. It operates through the following three segments: Regulated Electric Utility, Regulated Natural Gas Utility and All Other. The Regulated Electric Utility segment primarily generates, transmits and distributes electricity in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Texas and New Mexico. Additionally, this segment includes resale sales and provides wholesale transmission services to various entities in the United States. It also includes the commodity trading operations. The Regulated Natural Gas Utility segment primarily transports, stores and distributes natural gas in portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Michigan and Colorado. The All Other segment is engaged in steam operations, appliance repair services, non-utility real estate activities, conversion of solid waste to refuse-derived fuel and investment in rental housing projects qualifying for low-income housing tax credits.
