Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, Dominion Energy was incorporated in Virginia in 1983 and is one of the largest energy producers and transporters in the United States. The company operates approximately 30,700 megawatts of generation capacity, 10,400 miles of transmission lines, 85,000 miles of electric distribution lines, 14,600 miles of natural gas gathering, storage and transmission pipelines, and 103,400 miles of natural gas distribution pipelines (excluding service lines). It operates one of the largest underground natural gas storage systems in the United States, with a capacity of approximately 1 trillion cubic feet, and serves more than 7 million utility and retail energy customers.
