Vistra Corp. is one of the largest electricity producers and retail energy providers in the United States. It owns 44 gigawatts of generation capacity, including natural gas generation (27 GW), nuclear generation (6.5 GW), coal generation (8.7 GW), and solar and battery storage (1.4 GW). Following the acquisition of Cogentrix, Vistra will add 5.5 GW of natural gas generation capacity. Vistra's retail electricity business serves 5 million customers across 20 U.S. states, including nearly one-third of Texas electricity users. Vistra became independent in 2016 following the bankruptcy reorganization of Energy Future Holdings.
