Notemere — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 27, 2026
1. Introduction
Notemere is a browser extension ("the Extension") developed by Data4AI ("data4ai.io", "we", "us", or "our") that lets you save web articles, extract tables, recognize text in images (OCR), and chat with AI about your saved content. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
By installing and using Notemere, you agree to the practices described in this policy. This policy supplements the general Data4AI Privacy Policy; where they differ, this Notemere-specific policy governs the Extension.
2. Information We Collect
The Extension only processes page content when you take an action (clicking the icon, using a keyboard shortcut, or the right-click menu). We do not continuously monitor your browsing in the background.
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Your email address, used as the unique identifier for your Data4AI account. This account links the Extension to your personal library on data4ai.io, so that the articles you collect in the Extension are synced to and accessible from the Extension on any other browser or device you sign in to. You can also register and sign in to the same account directly on our website (data4ai.io) to manage your library, subscription, and account settings.
- Article Content: When you choose to save a page, the Extension extracts the page's readable content (title, text, source URL, author byline, and favicon) from the current tab. This content is sent to our servers to be stored in your library.
- Image Data for OCR: When you use the screenshot / image-recognition feature, the selected image is sent to our AI service to perform text recognition and return a text result. The image is processed for this purpose and not retained for longer than needed.
- Chat Messages: When you ask questions about a saved article, your question and the relevant article context are sent to our AI provider to generate a response.
- Usage & Diagnostics: Anonymous error reports and crash data may be collected via Sentry to help us fix bugs and improve the Extension. These reports are scrubbed of sensitive request headers before being sent.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and identify your Data4AI account, so the articles you collect in the Extension are linked to that account and can be accessed from any browser or device where you sign in with the same account
- To save, store, and display the articles you collect in your cloud library
- To perform OCR and AI-powered question answering on content you select
- To provide cross-device and cross-browser synchronization of your saved articles when you are signed in
- To enforce subscription plan limits (such as the number of articles collected per billing cycle)
- To diagnose errors and improve Extension stability
4. Browser Permissions
The Extension requests the following permissions, each for a specific, narrow purpose:
- activeTab / scripting: To read the content of the current tab only when you trigger a save or OCR action.
- sidePanel: To display your saved articles and AI chat in the browser side panel.
- tabs: To support saving the current page and the "save all open tabs" batch-collect feature.
- contextMenus: To add right-click options such as "Collect this page" and "OCR this image".
- storage: To cache your session and settings locally in the browser.
- identity / identity.email: To read your Google account's email address so we can sign you in to your Data4AI account. Your email is used only as the account identifier that links the Extension to your personal library on data4ai.io, enabling cross-device and cross-browser synchronization of the articles you collect. The same account can be used to sign in directly on our website. We do not use your email for marketing, do not share it with advertisers, and do not post to or read from your Google account.
- downloads: To let you export your saved articles to local files.
- Host permissions (all sites): Required so the content script can extract article text from any webpage you choose to save. Content is read only on your explicit action, never automatically in the background.
5. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. To provide the Extension's features, we share data with these service providers only as necessary:
- AI service providers (including Azure OpenAI and other LLM providers): To perform OCR and to answer your questions about saved content.
- Sentry: To receive aggregated, de-identified error and crash reports.
- Payment providers (PayPal): To process subscription purchases. Payment card data is handled entirely by the provider and never touches our servers.
We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Data4AI, our users, or the public.
6. Data Storage & Retention
Your account information and saved articles are stored on our servers (located outside the People's Republic of China), protected by TLS encryption in transit and access controls at rest.
Saved articles remain in your library until you delete them. You can delete individual articles at any time; deleted articles are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
Images submitted for OCR are processed to produce the text result and are not retained beyond what is necessary to deliver the feature.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data transmission, strict access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights & Choices
- Access & Export: You can view your saved articles at any time and export them to local files.
- Deletion: You can delete individual articles or your entire account. Account deletion removes your personal information within a reasonable period.
- Opt out of cloud features: The Extension can save articles locally without an account; signing in is required only for cloud sync, OCR, and AI features.
- Uninstall: You can remove the Extension at any time via your browser's extension management page, which stops all data collection.
9. Children's Privacy
Notemere is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notifying you through the Extension or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
