Corning, Inc. engages in providing glass for laptop computers, tablet desktop displays, display televisions, and other information display applications; carrier network and enterprise network products for the telecommunications industry; ceramic substrates for gasoline and diesel engines for the automotive and heavy-duty vehicle markets; laboratory products for the scientific community; and polymer products for biotechnology applications. It operates through the following business segments: Display Technologies, Optical Communications, Environmental Technologies, Specialty Materials, and Life Sciences. The Display Technologies segment produces glass substrates for flat panel displays, including organic light-emitting diode and liquid crystal displays, primarily used in televisions, laptop computers, desktop monitors, tablets, and handheld devices. The Optical Communications segment is divided into two primary product groups: Carrier Networks and Enterprise Networks. The Carrier Networks group primarily consists of products and solutions based on optical communication infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications. The Enterprise Networks group primarily consists of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments, and individuals. The Environmental Technologies segment produces ceramic substrates and filter products for emission control in mobile and stationary applications. The Specialty Materials segment engages in manufacturing products that provide material formulations for glass, glass-ceramics, and crystals, as well as precision metrology instruments and software. The Life Sciences segment develops, manufactures, and supplies laboratory products.
