Alcoa Corporation is a vertically integrated aluminum company whose operations include bauxite mining, alumina refining, and primary aluminum production. By production volume, it is one of the world's largest bauxite miners and alumina refiners, but does not rank among the world's top ten aluminum producers, a list dominated primarily by Chinese companies. Its profitability is closely tied to current commodity prices along the aluminum supply chain. Alcoa is the company that first produced aluminum at scale, introducing the transformative Hall-Heroult smelting process in the 1880s, which made aluminum affordable. It went public in 1925. In 2016, Alcoa spun off its automotive and aerospace metals components business to focus on mining, smelting, and refining. The company acquired the remaining 40% of AWAC in mid-2024.
